A Military Wife’s Prayer for Valentine’s Day

Prayer is so important! It is our lifeline to our Lord who is our Rock and our Strength. Because of Jesus, we can pray anytime and anywhere, even on Valentine’s Day. As military wives, prayer are one of the best tools we have. Whether we’re spending Valentine’s apart from our husband, or are able to spend it with him in person, either situation is cause for running to Jesus and praying a military wife’s prayer for Valentine’s.

But sometimes it’s hard to know what to pray for. It’s hard to find the words to say even when we feel the deep groaning or joy in our hearts. I encourage you to try though. Even if the words may not be coming straight from you. For example, praying the words of the Bible is one of the best ways to pray. It’s full of God’s Words that speak what’s on our hearts while at the same time bringing praise to Him. I’ve also found that reading other people’s prayers help too. God allows us to go through things in order to comfort others. And the way one prays during a similar situation can comfort and help another.

So below are two different prayers: one for the military wife spending Valentine’s Day apart from her husband, and one for the military wife getting to spend Valentine’s Day with him. These are similar prayers to what I’ve prayed in the past as I’ve spent Valentine’s Day without my husband and what I’m praying right now as I get to spend it with him this year. I want the seasons that God has put me through to in turn be used to help you, even in prayer. So whichever you’re going through right now, know that Jesus is ready to listen to your heart.

A Prayer for the Military Wife Spending Valentine’s Day Alone

Dear Heavenly Father,

My heart is heavy as I miss my husband greatly and desire to be with him this Valentine’s Day … and in general. I long to be in his arms again, spending every day with him. I know that for everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. But Father, this season hurts. Some days are easier than others. But with this holiday quickly approaching, the days are definitely more difficult to endure as I’m reminded of the fact that I can’t celebrate this romantic day with the one I love.

I can’t endure this pain alone. I need You Lord. I need Your strength. I need Your comfort. I need Your endurance and steadfastness. I need You.

I know that with You, I can persevere until the day that I am reunited with my husband. But as I wait for that day, I pray that my heart will be molded more and more like Yours. I pray also that my husband will mature in his faith during this time!

We may be apart, but we are still one. So as one, let our relationship with You be strengthened as well as our own relationship. Lord, help us to be that iron sharpening iron even with the many miles between us. Let our marriage speak of Your name even as we’re apart. Let our love bear all things, believe all things, hope all things, and endure all things.

So this Valentine’s Day, I pray I wouldn’t dwell on the fact that I’m without my husband, but that I’d dwell on Your love, Your perfect plan, and how our separation can glorify You. I pray that amidst our sorrow, we will find joy and comfort in You.

In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

A Prayer for the Military Wife Getting to Spend Valentine’s Day with Her Husband

Dear Heavenly Father,

I am beyond thankful that I get to spend this Valentine’s Day with my husband! I know the feeling of being without him, and I know that on a holiday that emphasizes relationships, it can be extremely difficult to be apart from each other. But Lord, You have blessed us by allowing us to be together on this day. I don’t have to send him a kiss over the phone or over video-chat. I don’t have to spill tears as my heart aches to be with him.

But as we get to spend this holiday together, I pray that both my husband and I wouldn’t lose sight of You. I pray that our quality time together would be glorifying to You. I know there will be other times, other holidays when we have to be apart. And while I don’t like thinking about it, I pray that the time You have planned and ordained for us to be in each other’s embrace will be that much more special.

Lord, help me to be the loving wife I need to be not just on Valentine’s Day, but everyday. Help me to be an encouragement and support for my husband. Regardless of where we stand in our relationship today, help me to be a wife after Your own heart who loves, submits, respects, and cherishes her husband. Let our love bear all things, believe all things, hope all things, and endure all things. Let Your steadfast love and faithfulness drive us to do the same with each other.

In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

Regardless of your situation this Valentine’s Day, pour your heart out to the One who listens and understands. Bring your sorrows, your joys, your pains, your blessings, your fears, your thoughts, and your burdens before the Lord. Once you’re done, give thanks to Him who understands your situation. Praise Him for who He is. And If you are having a hard time finding the words to pray, use these prayers above as an example for your own (it’s okay if these prayers becomes your prayer:)). But no matter what you’re feeling, run to Him with your military wife’s prayer for Valentine’s.
