I’m not much of a baker or a cook. I cook because I have to and because I don’t want my husband to have to cook after working all day. But come Christmas time, I love being in the kitchen! The smells, the yummy tastes, and the wonderful company irresistibly draws me in. The beautiful thing? It doesn’t have to be complicated! So here are some easy Christmas DIY recipes you’ll definitely want to try. And yes, you can easily do it yourself!
Candied Pecans
I promise this is not an intricate process… but the results are addicting, so be warned! Below is a free printable to save to your phone or print for quicker access.
Turn your oven to 250° F (120° C). Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. In a large bowl, add egg white and water. Mix to a froth (use a whisk to froth the mixture).
Add pecans. Mix together until the pecans are thoroughly coated in frothy mixture. Then add the sugar and the cinnamon. Mix until pecans are fully coated.
Pour coated pecans onto the lined cookie sheet. Place in oven for one hour. Stir the pecans every 15 minutes.
Christmas Stovetop Potpourri
I am not exaggerating when I say this stovetop potpourri fills the entire house with scents of Christmas. The ingredients play off one another, bringing Christmas smells to every corner of your home. Below is a free printable of the recipe for you to have easy and quick access when you make it yourself.
And this truly is an easy Christmas DIY recipe. Simply gather your ingredients, put them in a medium sized pot, cover the ingredients with water, and simmer all day (adding water as needed)!
I was able to extend this recipe for 2 days, covering the pot with a lid at night and then adding water the following morning and simmering all day again. The aesthetics are not great the second day, but the smell is just the same!
Santa Cupcakes
We’re not going to cheat here, we’re just going to use our resources and cut out a couple steps (if you are like me a don’t want to bake from scratch). The focus on these cupcakes is the decorating. So however you want to make your cupcakes is up to you! Bake it from scratch or buy a boxed cupcake mix from the store.
You’ll need white frosting (store bought or made from scratch… doesn’t matter) and red food coloring. Take a portion of the white frosting and add several drops of the red food coloring to it, and I mean several.
To decorate the cupcakes to look like Santa Claus, cover half the cupcake in red frosting. Then add a dollop of white frosting at the top of the red frosting for the top of the hat, as well as along the center of the cupcake (the bottom of the red frosting). Line the outside of the uncovered half of cupcake to make the beard. Finish it off by adding his mustache with a small line of white frosting.
And done! 12 Santa cupcakes in under an hour.
