25 Fun Christmas Activities for 2020

Each year during the Christmas season, I wistfully envision my husband and I doing this fun Christmas thing and that exciting Christmas activity. I go into the Christmas season with the nostalgic goal to make this year’s Christmas warm and delightful. And each year, with all my goals and dreams, I always fail to think of fun Christmas activities. And then you throw covid and 2020 into the mix…

I know I’m not alone out there… right? Regardless of whether you endure the same yearly struggle or want some fresh new ideas for Christmas, I have a list for you! These fun Christmas activities are things that you can do anywhere in the world (for my military friends who are overseas like we are), with anyone in your family (no matter what age), to use as a date with your loved one, or to enjoy with your friends. And even if you’re having to isolate or adhere to stay at home restrictions, these activities are still possible!

So here we go… 25 fun Christmas activities:

  1. Make a Christmas movie wish list… a list that spells out what movies you absolutely want to watch. There are so many movies out there, and it can get overwhelming with which ones to watch. So write them down and start checking them off.
  2. Try some new Christmas recipes! Go to foodnetwork.com or Tasty and find some new recipes to try. Or ask your parents or grandparents if they have any traditional Christmas recipes that you’ve never had before.
  3. Find a Christmas Advent devotional or Bible study to do with your husband, your family, or your friends.
  4. Bake cookies! I’m not much of a baker, but around Christmas time I can’t help but bake a few things, including cookies.
  5. Make some diy Christmas signs.
  6. Blast Christmas music and sing along (maybe dance a little too).
  7. Make a dried orange garland.
  8. Go on a walk at night and look at the Christmas lights outside (bring some hot chocolate in a thermos too!).
  9. Have a gingerbread house competition. Post your pictures on social media and let your followers/friends be the judges.
  10. Make Christmas present wrapping a little more exciting this year by either coming up with some prank wrapping (i.e. duct tape, freezing the present, zip ties, glitter, paper mache, etc.) or with different decorative wrapping.
  11. Read a Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
  12. Read the story of the birth of Jesus.
  13. With a nativity set, take Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem through the house each day (cannot take credit for this amazing idea! Heard it from a friend!).
  14. If you have leftover wrapping paper, try wrapping each other up (as a fun crazy game).
  15. Decorate the Christmas tree.
  16. Make your own ornaments.
  17. Make some paper cone Christmas trees and cover with yarn or whatever you have on hand!
  18. Go Christmas “donation” shopping at Samaritan’s Purse. It’s a little more difficult to get out there and give to others with all the covid restrictions/concerns. But giving is always an option.
  19. Host a party or small get-together (if you’re able to due to COVID).
  20. Go on a Christmas themed scavenger hunt.
  21. Memorize Isaiah 9:6. Make a Christmas sign with this verse and use it in your Christmas decorating.
  22. Write Christmas letters to Jesus and/or Santa (depending on if you do the whole Santa thing in your household).
  23. Go to the Christmas markets or shops in town.
  24. Have a hot chocolate competition.
  25. Take a little time and sit by the Christmas tree at night with the Christmas tree lights on and reflect on all that God has done both through Jesus’s birth and in your life/your family’s life this past year.
