As a military wife, I feel like there are always new things that I am learning about the military and about my role as a military wife. I would say that most of the things I have learned have been from experience rather than hearing it from someone else. But there are many times that I wish I had had someone or somewhere to go to in order to be somewhat prepared for military life.
When I was dating my husband and then later got engaged to him, he was going through basic training and the early portions of his job training. I learned a lot from him about general things in the military that he was experiencing. He would also share with me things he had heard from other military couples. But there were just some things that we wouldn’t learn until it came time for us to experience them. Beforehand, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I didn’t know what certain processes looked like or certain acronyms meant. I hardly knew that there were these processes in place or that there were that many acronyms.
This is why I feel led to write about the common things you will experience or come across as a military wife. I want you to feel as prepared as you can be or to be filled in as much as possible while you’re in the midst of experiencing these things.
Proverbs 31:15 says, “She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens.” At some point I will further explain this verse, but for now, I want to show you that the woman described in this verse is a woman who is prepared. Understand that you cannot always be prepared, but you can ask the Lord to guide you to the right resource (i.e. other women, books, blogs, military websites, etc.). As a Proverbs 31 woman, it’s good to always strive to be prepared for what’s up ahead. And if what’s up ahead or happening now is being a military wife, it’s good to take steps to become ready and equipped.
Being a military wife is amazing, especially when you are married to the one you love and are fulfilling a role that God intended you to fulfill. It’s even more amazing when you have somewhat of an idea of what you will need to do as a military wife or simply what you need to know.
So it is my goal to share with you as much as I can remember about things that you need to know either as you prepare yourself for becoming a military wife, just became a brand-new military wife, or are a military wife who just needs further information.
If you have specific questions or want a post on a specific topic, please let me know and I will do my best to address that question/topic.
Happy preparing!
