7 Verses for the Tired and Weary Proverbs 31 Woman

Do you find yourself glancing over at the couch, longing to relax and rest your eyes? Do you feel a consistent desire to put everything on hold so you can nap, even when there’s plenty more to be done? Do you become weary from thinking about your to-do list? Do you ever feel guilty for taking a moment to rest? Are you frustrated that you can’t do it all like the Proverbs 31 woman? You are not alone! But I want to encourage you with verses for the tired and weary Proverbs 31 woman that you can read when you are mentally checking off “yes” to all these questions.

Before I jump into these verses, I want you to recognize that the Proverbs 31 woman was one of us too! She felt the weight of exhaustion that many of us feel. But because of her faith in the Lord, she was strengthened to persevere despite her tiredness. We have that same opportunity! And we also have amazing verses for the tired and weary woman straight from God’s Word to find strength in.

Verses for the tired and weary Proverbs 31 woman

1) “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.” Proverbs 31:25

As a Proverbs 31 woman, a woman after God’s own heart, we are already clothed and equipped with strength to accomplish the tasks that God has set before us. Even on the days we’re exhausted and can’t keep our eyes open, God has clothed us with strength to persevere. Just as “she laughs at the time to come,” you have been given a beautiful gift from God to not have to worry or be overwhelmed with the things you need to do. If you are right where God wants you, doing the things He has called you to do as a Proverbs 31 woman, then you do NOT have to worry about getting everything done today.

Your days are God’s days, and in that, you can have full confidence that only what He wills will get done. So rest in the fact that God has given you the strength to endure and persevere to finish just what He wants you to do.

2) “He does not faint or grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might, He increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31

God willingly provides strength when we have none. Those of you who trust and depend on the Lord will have renewed strength…a divine strength that allows us to endure and continue on with whatever God has called us to do, no matter how tiring it is.

3) “As for you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good.” 2 Thessalonians 3:13 & “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9

There is real encouragement here! For those of you struggling to continue to sacrifice your time and energy for your family or friends, you will not come out of it empty handed. Christ will reward you for staying the course. Do not give up friend! What you are doing is good! Even if it’s tiring day in and day out, keep preserving to do what God wants you to do. And He will give you rest and blessings in ways you never expect.

4) “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

This is a promise from Jesus Himself. Those of you who are toiling hard and carrying heavy burdens will find rest in Christ. Those of you who are trying to find strength on your own, or trying to persevere on your own have the open invitation to give it to the Lord, rely on Him, and rest in the fact that He’s your strength, your provider, and your rest. He may give you physical rest, in fact, He designed our bodies to need physical rest, but He will most definitely give you spiritual rest from the toils of life.

5) “Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you.” Psalms 55:22

If any of you are like me, then part of our exhaustion is trying to carry too much, trying to do too much, and feeling as if you have to do it all. That’s a HUGE burden to bear! But God lovingly invites us to literally throw our burdens on His shoulders, because He is the One who can handle it. And by giving it over to Him, He will sustain us and give rest to our hearts. Imagine the beauty of not feeling overwhelmed or pressured into being superwoman! God offers this to us if only we let Him.

6) “For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish.” Jeremiah 31:25

Because of what God has done for us through His Son, He has satisfied our very souls. He fills our cup when we try to do it on our own. We don’t have to strive to be good enough…because Christ is enough. Whatever is causing you to be tired and weary, rest in the fact that Jesus Christ became the lamb who was slain in order to save our weary souls and give us rest.

7) “But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of a Christ may rest upon me.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

What a perspective change! In the midst of writing this blog post, my friend texted me this verse as an encouragement in my exhaustion. She helped remind me that through our weakness Christ is glorified. It’s these times that we really see His power and grace working in us and for us. When you are tired and weary, remember that His grace is all you need to keep going. His grace provides the power and strength to endure and persevere. Amazing!

_____________

Being tired and weary is never an enjoyable thing. But the fact that you’re feeling it means you are working hard as a Proverbs 31 woman to do what God has has called you to do. Use these verses when you are feeling run down as a reminder that God will strengthen you and give you exactly what you need to keep persevering. I pray that you will find encouragement in these verses and in the promises God gives us. I want you to know that often times it is our hearts that will be strengthened, not always our physical bodies. But He graciously gives us times when we can rest, because He knows we need to.

Take a moment to pray and ask God for the strength you need, both spiritually and physically. Go through this list of verses for the tired and weary, pick a couple that resonate deep with you, and pray those too. God will listen and is readily there to supply you with the strength you need.

Keep persevering, friend!

To tell you the truth, the Proverbs 31 woman has always intimidated me. It is the ideal. I am glad Jesus doesn’t need us to be “ideal” to love us!! Although I’m a grandma now, I am still extremely involved with my kids and grandkids, and still long for the time when the house becomes quiet again! God bless you and your work –

I so understand that! Reading the Proverbs 31 woman passage IS intimidating. But that’s one reason I’ve created Boldly Rise…I want women to not be intimidated by it, to not see it as a huge (and almost impossible) checklist and “works” list, but rather view it as a beautiful example of the effects on our hearts that fear the Lord. I want women to see the blessings that come from fearing the Lord in many different ways, as it has for the Proverbs 31 woman. And I want to help women know how to bless others with the heart God has given them as a result of following Him.
I can imagine your yearning for quiet time:) But you are doing an amazing thing for your family that will have eternal ramifications! You’re kids and grandkids are lucky to have you.

I’m so sorry these past few days have been stressful for you. It’s never fun. But I’m praying these next few days, you’ll have the strength you need to make it through the week! And I’m so glad you pointed out that they’d be great for stress too!
